Introduction

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Education is a four-year full-time professional qualification that prepares you for a teaching career in the early childhood sector.

Our department originated in 1954, providing many professionals with skills that are required in enhancing the lives of infants, toddlers and young children and providing support for families in their parenting. We have a supportive alumni network and strong links with the community we serve.

Our degree structure is divided into two central parts: education and professional practice.

  • In education you will learn about the aims and purposes of education, child development, educational and developmental psychology, Japan education and welfare system, social and learning contexts, communication skills and contemporary issues in education. Specifically, our teaching system is highly evaluated for supporting children with disabilities.
  • In professional practice you will learn practical care and teaching skills and spend time working in a classroom alongside experienced instructors. Many practical training opportunities are also provided in kindergartens and nursery schools.

Graduating from our university, you will:

  • play a vital role in supporting the development and learning of infants, toddlers and young children, creating positive learning experiences
  • become a skilled professional woking alongside infants, toddlers and young children and their families in a variety of early childhood services and centres
  • become a skilled professional providing support for children with disabilities
  • provide support for families who have children and advice for families who have problems in parenting
  • be offered various professional development opportunities to advance your knowledge and skills in your career after graduation

The early years of a child’s life have a critical impact on their lifelong development. High quality care and learning experiences during those important early years lay the foundations for all later learning.
